New Drug Against Deadly Melanoma
In a new study, researchers followed 132 patients with metastatic melanoma who had failed to respond to standard treatment. In about half of the cases, vemurafenib shrunk their tumors. For another third of the patients, the tumors showed no progression once the drug kicked in. Study co-author Dr. Lynn Schuchter, at the University of Pennsylvania, called these numbers "unprecedented."

The Supreme Court is hearing a case challenging the Stolen Valor Act, a law that makes it a crime to lie about receiving military awards. The law is being challenged in court by Xavier Alvarez, who, while serving as a public official in California, introduced himself to an audience by saying, 'I'm a retired Marine for 25 years. I was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.' Alvarez had never served in the military.
